"Art is Spirit Made Tangible"

I feel that everything is possible in a world where men & women are puppets of their ambitions and their fallen nature. Art does not hide the individual, but reveals his or her underlying reality.

When I photograph, and perhaps even more so, when I apply paint & raw materials, something is set loose. Something special and rare is allowed to happen. The subconscious spirit, emotions, and curiosities are released.

An urge takes over, grows and cultivates within the soul and a permission to act out these feelings is given.

I believe that art offers one to be absurd, to do the unexpected, to liberate caged hidden thoughts. To be yourself.

My name is Mary Anne Crowley and I teach Photography & Art at a Public High School in Bridgeport, CT. In my teaching, I try to impress upon the students the idea that making art is potentially the highest form of personal expression, that it allows one to communicate ideas visually and test the limits of one's creativity. I feel that some of the most successful teaching comes from inspiring students by personal example. Displaying dedication to one's work and a commitment to excellence provides the students with a model consistent with my philosophy of teaching. In return I am inspired by my student's excitement in discovery.
